Accru Felsers’ relationship with the Sydney Heritage Fleet (SHF) is one built on shared values of tradition, community, and global connection, and over the years there has been more than one touchpoint between our organisations.
Like most non-for-profit organisations, SHF faces unique challenges that stem from the complexity of their operations and funding structures. Diverse revenue streams such as donations, grants, membership fees, event charters, and fundraising activities, each with specific compliance requirements, all require diligent management.
Accru Felsers, as part of its professional support, ensures that all funds are used according to donor stipulations. Additionally, valuation of non-cash contributions like goods and volunteer services regularly need validation. SHF relies heavily on a large number of volunteers, making internal control and complete documentation particularly complex.
Naturally, cost sensitivity is a persistent challenge for SHF as it operates within tight budgets and must balance the need for thorough compliance with financial feasibility, all while maintaining transparency and trust with its stakeholders. This is where Accru Felsers steps in to provide tailored, expert services to SHF.
The unmatched passion by the SHF team and the uniqueness of their offering doesn’t go unnoticed in Sydney’s business community. The German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, for example, hosts its annual New Year’s Reception aboard the fleet’s majestic tall ship James Craig, proudly supported by Accru Felsers.

About the Sydney Heritage Fleet
Founded in 1965, the Sydney Heritage Fleet is a living tribute to Australia’s seafaring past. Operating from Wharf 7 in Darling Harbour and a restoration shipyard in Rozelle Bay, the Fleet maintains one of the world’s largest collections of operational heritage vessels. Run entirely by over 450 volunteers providing hands-on planning, logistical and labour work, its mission is to restore, operate, and share historic ships while preserving traditional maritime skills. Today, the Fleet boasts 10 major vessels, including steam tugs, ferries, and launches, alongside 55 smaller heritage boats and an extensive archive of maritime records.
The James Craig, the Fleet’s flagship and one of only four 19th-century barques worldwide still sailing, was built in 1874 in Sunderland, England. Rescued from a Tasmanian bay in the 1970s, she underwent a painstaking 30-year restoration carried out by volunteers from the SHF, culminating in her triumphant return to sea in 2001. Her restoration earned her the prestigious World Ship Trust Maritime Heritage Award, cementing her status as a global icon of maritime preservation.
Over the years, Sydney Heritage Fleet has hosted countless memorable occasions and participated in some of the biggest events representing Sydney and Australia. From Boxing Day cruises following the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race to New Year’s Eve fireworks sails, these events offer an unparalleled chance to experience maritime history under sail. Other highlights include providing vessels for the Australia Day fleet parade on Sydney harbour, and even voyages to Hobart for the Australian Wooden Boat Festival. Each event underscores the Fleet’s role in connecting people with our local maritime heritage.
